Used to come to Canton cafe when I worked in Auckland city area 20 years ago. Glad to see that it is still operating. I believe I always ordered roast pork and beans curt on rice back in the old days $19. Big portion but the bak choi vege was too big, should chop it down. Braised roasted duck owith preserved cabbage on rice noodles also great.

Can't believe this was the first time I'd been here but was here for my colleagues birthday dinner and the food was just great! Fish, sizzling beef, tofu, chow mein, dim sum, sweet and sour pork and also ordered a chicken dish but can't recall which one specifically. The only dish I didn't like was the tofu but am not a fan of tofu in general anyway so this was not surprising for me. I had rice and of course BYO and I bought one of my favourite inexpensive wines (Brown Brother Dolcetto and Syrah). Can't quite recall how much the corkage is but think it is NZD3.00 per bottle. Our table was upstairs (I had no idea there was seating upstairs) and there's also tables on the balcony upstairs. I brought a cake and candles for the birthday boy. You need to book a table in advance unless you want to wait and there is a time limit if it is busy and it was on the Friday that I was there. Good location and the restaurant was a residential house so you're essentially dining in a former bedroom or in our case a former living room! Waitresses were great and took care of us.

Went to try this cafe as recommended by a friend. We ordered deep fried squid, lemon chicken, sizzling black pepper lamb, special Maggie sauce king prawns. Food was nice.

Another happy visit to Canton Cafe my go to place in NZ. Over 20 yrs & still relish the king prawns in black sauce. Superb taste, consistent cooking over well over two decades & I also recommend the same with tofu & hapuka with their black sauce. That sauce is just pure magic for my taste buds, The sizzler chicken was a visual delight, ( see the steaming in the photo) Must not forget piping hot green tea to begin with & the proverbial 'now get going' plate of fruits at the end. Service with a smile & my compliments to all your lovely staff, you are a credit to Canton Cafe @ Kingsland! I hope my grandchildren too will enjoy your food! Live long & Prosper!!

Very busy place specially on Friday evenings. You won't get a place without booking. We had good time as a group and everyone loved the food. Ice cream was very good. Plenty of paid parking and a free parking also available nearby in the streets.
